YOED 6020 Reflection

I learned many practical strategies for teaching literacy to ESL students while taking this course. I found many of the projects and assignments to be useful in the ESL classroom. The choral reading activity, thematic instruction, the SDAIE lesson plan, and the writing prompt were all activities I could specifically utilize within my ESL classroom. These strategies also give me the opportunity to reach out to students on all language levels.
I have been teaching ESL for 2 years. I am still learning a lot about the ESL profession. During the passed two years, I have taught mostly English lessons and did not touch on other subjects very often. However, after taking this course (and others) I realize that it is ok to branch out into other subject areas.
This year, I would like to incorporate more content area lessons. This would reinforce what students learn in the classroom. It would give me more of a variety of lessons I could teach besides strictly English material. I also think it would be more fun for me and my students. :)
